Li Na is not disheartened by her defeat in the semi final match of the recently finished BNP Paribas Open. She lost to a lower ranked player there, but, she is not that much concerned about that. She is in fact happy that she managed to qualify for the semi final round. According to her, she was not expecting herself to go that far at the start of the tournament.
Li who had started the year with a bang by winning the Australian Open was the top seeded player at Indian Wells because the world no. 1 Serena Williams was not there. So, it was obvious that she was expected to be in the title round, but, her campaign was stopped in the semis by an Italian veteran player Flavia Pennetta who is not even in top 10 in the world rankings at the moment.
Talking to the reporters about that defeat, Li said, “It was not the first time that I got beaten. It happens in the game. I am happy that I made my way into the Round of 4. It was not a disappointing tournament for me by any means.”
“Also, the player whom I lost to is actually a very good player and she’s in her full flow in that match. So, I am not worried about that. Yes, there are a few things which I would have liked to do better that day, but, as I said, it happens sometimes.”
That semi final defeat didn’t make Li slip down in the World rankings though. She is still the second ranked player in the world and would be a top contender in the Sony Open tennis tournament which will start in Miami is about 5 days’ time.
